Teaching is a Noble Profession with the very important responsibility of preparing our youth to be Competitive in the Global Economy. However, don't ask them to implement any measures of their performance or to work with Administrators to improve the overall process. In fact the Public Education System is the last bastion of Monopolies. What is really amazing to me is that they don't seem to have passed Econ 101. On Tuesday April 20th Teachers joined with other Union members in Illinois to stage a rally in Springfield, IL in support of Governor Quinn's proposal to increase Income Taxes by 33%. Obviously, they took off from their important jobs to join the rally.
How is it that people who are entrusted with preparing our youth don't realize that excessive taxes and huge budget deficits actually contribute to reduced revenues for State and Local Government. Illinois is ranked 1st in the country for projected Budget Deficits in 2011 (See Post Below). Although the Teachers and other State worker Unions have managed to force Legislators to give them huge pensions and be able to take them at an early age, the same Legislators have not been funding these Pension Funds - yet the Teachers keep asking for more.
Once an income tax is increased it is forever. We need to lobby the Illinois Legislators to reduce the level of unfunded mandates and other areas of the State budget and start paying back the Pension Funds and to reform these outrageous grants and make the State Salaries and Pensions equal to those that have been implemented in private industry.
